We can hear our young great tit family in their best. Can’t be long before they’re on their way out

Fourth cuckoo in three days
I had a very swifty encounter a couple days ago - I was running (slowly) up the cobbled Main Street in Haworth - the start of the Hobble basically - and about 3/4 of the way up a small group of screaming swift where hurtling down toward me at roof level

They’re probably non-breeders heading south for the winter

Our garden now resounds to the summer swift screech. Took a while. Strange thing to love, but I do.

If you watch Kenneth Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing there are swifts screaming in many of the outdoor scenes. It was filmed in Tuscany and you can almost feel summer oozing out of the screen. It’s a wonderful positive upbeat sound

DT, yes, that's part of it, certainly. It's the sound of sitting outside some restaurant in Spain or Italy, on a warm summer evening, drinking wine and eating gorgeous food.

I managed to snap my first cormorant in the NL on my run today. I've often seen them in Pembrokeshire but I'm happy to spot one here.
