Saw a particularly vivid magpie whilst running today, wasn't the rarest or best of the spots but the brightness of the blue flash down it's wing was rather special.

There are very few if any truly mundane birds. Many fairly common species are stunning when seen properly - goldfinch, chaffinch and greenfinch spring to mind. Even dunnock and wren

Swifts or Swallows out yesterday evening over Leeds ring road as I was out on my run.

Couldn't tell which as they were moving too fast.

Swift look like sickles with tails; swallow much more ‘butterfly’ like in appearance (and movement)

I once nearly crashed my car on the Leeds ring road looking up at swift :-O

I think they were swallows, due to the size. But I couldn't be sure. I was running over the bridge at Moortown R'bt.

We used to get *loads* of swifts in the park where I grew up - late summer they'd be zooming down close to the ground hunting for insects whilst we were playing cricket.

Starling fledglings being shown where the feeders are this morning, love watching the chaos - but they don't half make a mess!

I have a clutch of baby blue-tits in one of the nest boxes - it's a sparrow 3-storey one that the sparrows have never fancied, glad it's made a home this year :)

and I forgot to report, driving home down the A1 on Sunday a Jay flew straight across the road in front of me, I don't think I've ever seen a roadside jay before!

Common Whitethroat singing in my garden today---I've only recorded one other in the garden once since 2012.
Usual Cetti's.

Working in the garden and the coal tits are making a racket in the trees at the back. Not seen them for a few weeks, but they're back :-)

The usual magpies are about too.

I need to clean and refill my birdbath. Might do that now.

(Best news is that I've seen a hedgehog in my garden in the last week).
