Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Heard my first Greenfinch of the year, they seem to be a lot less common nowadays. Cetti's not calling at Attenborough yet, maybe they are all lip reading.

A pair of mallards arrived at our pond overnight. They seem to be happy to share with the moorhen. I’m really hoping this year will be the year they stay and bring up ducklings.

ff, I'm hoping for siskins here, too. If they come, they tend to come late winter, when alder cones in the local area are depleted. A couple of years ago for a brief period in March they were the commonest bird in our garden, but I've only seen a couple so far this winter.

A bird aim for this year: hear nightingales. Didn't hear any at all last year.

Siskins and goldfinches 'own' our bird feeders - 4-6 siskins and about 6 goldfinches.
But the golfinches seem to come for a few days, then go off for a week or two, then back.
Siskins always in pairs and only squabble if lone males try to intervene, goldfinches fine if either side of the feeder, but will not tolerate another one at the 90 degree slot.
All seem happiest with niger seeds, but also munch happily on the sunflower hearts.

First singing Chiffchaff this morning along my running route--also Cetti's and three Greenfinches at separate sites (they have actually increased down here over the last couple of years Chrisity).
