Half a dozen raucous Jays along the old Nottingham Canal, and a Buzzard that i disturbed then perched on a telegraph pole giving me the evil eye.

Nice shot Mrs CW! The sparrow hawk dive bombs our bird feeder sometimes! :-) G

Wonderful sound of a nuthatch calling incessantly in our local woods by the River Worth today :) I was only thinking at the weekend I’ve not heard one locally this ‘spring’ yet

Had a lovely Dunnock flitting around today. Also another bird of similar size which I'm not sure about. Could be a siskin or a baby greenfinch (if they are around yet). It had a heart shape tail and was brown with a lighter chest. I'll try and get a photo later.

Siskin isn’t a brown bird - more black and brightest green / yellow. Female house sparrow? Wren maybe?

Did a 15 mile run today with some satisfying bird action. Treecreeper, then a small flock of what I first took to be redpoll high up in the alder trees, flitting around eating the seeds. They could have been siskin, though. I only saw silhouettes, and they're pretty similar if you can't make out the plumage - small, fidgety finches with forked tails, with similar behaviour and habitat. A little further on, something I'd not seen before, a mixed flock of starlings and fieldfare. They were hanging around in the trees together and then flew down on to a ploughed field, where there were also skylarks and a yellowhammer singing in the distance. Lots of other birds very active as well - seemed very spring-like despite the cold temperature.

I love runs like that J2R, the type of runs that got me into finding out types of birds in the first place.

J2R we seem to get those mixed flocks of Starling and Fieldfare quite often here in Derbyshire. Plenty of Fieldfare and Redwing around today feeding in the fields that were getting the full sun this morning.
