My bird, was bigger than a wren, and thinner than a house sparrow :-? I’ll try and get a photo.

Currenrly being mobbed by LTTs :-) Eight within five feet of where I'm sat at my laptop. Even the Blue Tits are waiting for access to the feeders.

@bonners, yes, it was one of those runs which made me feel glad to be alive (apart from the 5 miles I did late on at HM pace in undulating terrain :) ). To a certain extent, though, running is incompatible with watching birds, for two obvious reasons - you miss quite a bit while you're running and you tend to frighten birds off. For me, the best sightings come when I stop for a few minutes, as I did yesterday, to do some stretching. I became aware of a general commotion of little birds around me, now unbothered by, or perhaps unaware of, my presence (I tend to avoid bright running clothing when I'm going somewhere nice in nature and wear instead drab, subfusc colours).

For me, falling over things whilst trying to watch birds and run at the same time is the biggest problem!

A few years ago I came to a screeching halt during a marathon to shout 'water rail!' much to the bemusement of the other runners :-)

KinkyS, :). There have been quite a few times when I've been a little conflicted during a race as a result of sighting interesting birds. I've wanted to stop, but the competitive runner in me always wins out. It only takes the right bird, though!

I do 70% of my bird watching while driving (I’m a rep and spend half my working life in the car). Death by peregrine is always a worry :(
