Just a horse place flanks. But 26 acres, so decent size. Missus is talking about sheep, pigs and/or alpacas, just to keep some of the grass/scrub area down and for the ol' subsidies. Great for all sorts of wildlife. Fox yesterday, during the day, bold as anything, through the horse pasture. Heard it kill a rabbit (not so pleasant!). 3 deer (wee ones - roe?)

Barn owls are actually nesting in the barn. Apparently hasn't happened for 10 years so we're quite lucky. Unfortunately one of them died, after it crashed into the electricity lines (we think). THat's where it was found lying, stunned, and frozen. Not to death. So neighbour put it in a box with a blanket and kept it warm. RSPCA came out in the morning but they said they'd just put it down as the wing was broken and lots of torn tendons. It may have been got at by something else, not just the result of the collision. Sad. But good to see the others are back flying around. And making a noise - a right hiss / screech they make if you disturb them! :-) G

What a blessed situation there, HappyG! Barn owls are wondrous birds.

First Ringed Plovers of the year back on the reservoir this afternoon, though given the temperature they may decide to head off again! Still just the three Oycs, hopefully a few more will arrive soon.

shows the difference latitude makes - ringed (and grey) plovers were around in Norfolk in fair numbers a couple of weeks ago

I love grey plover. Me and Stef big fave heart

Incidentally a good one to look out for: not a lapwing, upright not horizontal like a sandpiper, short bill, weird grey ‘urban camo’ plumage nerd

while we're on plovers, I got really confused when one of the old boys (retired warden at Cley) said there were 100s of golden and green plovers.

We'd seen the golden, but apart from that the only thing about in those sort of numbers were lapwing...

Lol! Flanker 😀 when I was a tad younger I had a couple of old guides that I'd inherited as I got interested in birdwatching that labelled Lapwings as Green Plovers, which at the time confused me because everyone I knew called the Peewits anyway!

Very smart male brambling on the sunflower seed feeder in my garden just now, the first proper sighting of the winter.
