The only cheese my birds get are the bits with mould on when I have to carve it off.

I see we have a bunch of cheese fans here. That is good.

No, Wensleydale is something of an oddity. If you just stick it in the fridge after opening it, without putting it in something airtight, it picks up some kind of taint and loses its freshness quite quickly (presumably because it's a young cheese). Needless to say, I have not given up buying Wensleydale since discovering this, I just make a point of eating it far more quickly. I hope I have not induced any kind of Wensleydale dependency in my garden birds, because that's all they're getting - I won't make the same mistake again!

Back off to Norfolk tomorrow for a week with K's family. The will involve a couple of trends: birding by day, cheese and port by night, with some running along the coastal path squeezed un between., You could get worse in-laws

Try that again, without the typos (i'm sure it's a dodgy keyboard, not the gin and wine)...

Back off to Norfolk tomorrow for a week with K's family. This will involve a few trends: birding by day, cheese and port by night (possibly with quizzes, card or jigsaws ... or just falling asleep on the sofa), with some running along the coastal path squeezed in where time allows. You could get worse in-laws (I know, I used to have some :-/).

Sounds good flanker

Three dippers today: a pair on the beck and one on the Worth. Also singing mistle thrush and three LTT, which looked maybe like a potential pair plus another suitor

flanker, enjoy running the coastal path in the 45mph wind forecast for tomorrow! I was up there today and ran a most enjoyable 13 miles despite rain and icy wind. Bird highlights were stonechats, a small flock of twite, a singing curlew (what an evocative song that is!), and a little inland, two very large flocks of pink-footed geese in the fields.

Your snow buntings are apparently still around at Salthouse, although they clearly had the day off when I was up there last weekend.

Did 17 miles along the coastal path, heading N/W from Burnham Overy, and then back again. I can safely say I didn't enjoy the wind. At times I was flat out and virtually running on the spot. At other times I was expecting to be blown out to sea!

Cley tomorrow. Not holding out much hopes, unless something has been blown across from Scandinavia overnight!

Wind's the wrong direction for that, I'm afraid, flanker! Best you can hope for is that they've been blown in from somewhere like Birmingham :).

Fragile Do Not Bend
There is a tawny owl hooting away in our garden right now, it’s a wonderful but eerie sound.

Wensleydale still holding up, despite the furious attention of two long-tailed tits this afternoon.
