I’ve has a further look on the app I have, which is the Collins Bird Guide. It does suggest that Willow Warblers over winter on the Norfolk/Suffolk coast. Our local nature reserve, Brandon Marsh, has resident Chiff Chaff and Cettis Warblers. We’ve been to another local reserve today, about 15 miles away, and heard a Cettis. The local twitter feed suggests resident Black Cap locally too.

Never heard a willow warbler before late March at the very earliest. Maybe they are indeed over-wintering here now?

You learn something every day. I’ve heard ‘winter’ Chettis and seen odd blackcap especially in the south. Chiffchaff are seen even in Yorkshire year round but I’d always thought willow warbler were solely migrants

Blackbird singing in our garden today :)

Like I say, we double checked. We were there at a perfect time for the calling (morning sun hitting the tree tops). I think we’ll be listening out again on tomorrow’s walk.

You're lucky - don't even seem to be any Willow Chaffs or Chiff Warblers in Norfolk. Although some Cettis have been heard (but not seen). Marsh Harriers ten-a-penny though :)

On our trip to Ladywalk on Friday there was a flotilla of gulls, mainly black headed gulls whose heads were just starting to turn. There was one there with a solid black head though. It did look just like the others but a chap there in one of the later hides got very excited it could have been a Mediterranean gull. I’m rubbish at gulls; to me it did just look like a black headed summer plumage gull. Anyone else seen a black headed gull with it’s full head yet????

It definitely was a willow warbler we heard. It sang plenty of times. It really took me aback!! As dave said, was singing long enough for us to get the app out to check!!
