Just remembered: two large, disorganised and noisy skeins of pinkies heading West up the Worth Valley towards Lancashire this morning

I noticed today that the BHGs are starting to get more black on their heads too. I also heard a woodpecker this morning.

4 little egrets on our XC course this morning, although they did move off pretty sharpish. Also a Black Swan at Attenborough, although i doubt it flew from Australia.

Back from a week in Norfolk - some interesting spots: several GW egrets, little ones too, cranes (a first for me), many marsh harriers, pretty much every flavour of goose including Black Brant, all the usual waders apart from Ruff, snow buntings, shorelarks, daily barn owls, 3 bitterns(!) and many other things. K who does the list-ticking thing ended up with 104 iirc.

Been out with the birdringing group ( well 2 of them!) this morning as my last outing was cancelled due to rubbish weather. I just watched and got to release the birds 😀
41 caught in total including 2 redpoll and a willow tit! 13 reed buntings and the rest were a mixture of great and blue tits, oh and a female greenfinch too.

Also saw a Marsh Harrier! (Didn’t catch that in the net!) well worth getting up early for 👍👍

Saw a white-headed blackbird on my run this morning - definitely a blackbird. Just looked him up and could be a condition known as 'leucism' - a plumage abnormality of somekind.
