I don't think that is snake.... so ground nesting, small, brown speckles on eggs goes off for a think..... |

All UK snake eggs are white, soft shelled and slightly rectangular. No snakes there.

Yesterday when driving to the pub for my Mother's Day lunch I saw two red kites hovering on the edge of the Cotswold escarpment at Birdlip. This is the furthest west I've seen kites (there are too many to count sometimes on the M40, and assuming they haven't come east from mid Wales). I was wondering, how do buzzards and red kites 'get on'? We have quite a few buzzards around here but presumably they will be in competition with each other?

That nest looks like skylark nest to me... but unlikely in a garden! First chiffchaff for me in Keswick at the weekend... and one nearer to home today. |

First chiffchaff for me today. Keep just missing them, of course once I spotted one another turns up a bit further on my walk. Interestingly swallows have apparently been spotted in Anglesey, none in this part of North Wales though. |

Re red Kites, I remember working in mid Wales being astounded to see a red kite happily feeding on a carcass with crows.
