I guess everyone has had Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps now..plenty around here. First House Martin locally early this week and plenty of Sand Martins and Wheatears. Waiting for Willow Warblers now...

Singing chiff-chaffs and a couple of waxwing as I walked to school today - nice juxtaposition of seasons.

Another stonechat for me on the Great Orme today. Still haven't seen a chiff chaff though. Sat in the garden typing this and the blooming pigeons couldn't care less. Literally scavenging around my feet. :D

In Madrid for a conference. Went for a run round Parc del Retiros this morning and saw ring neck parakeets. Also a greater spotted woodpecker- exciting for me as they are (almost, completely until recent years) absent from Ireland. I heard drumming and looked until I saw it, however the one I spotted wasn't the one drumming. Is the drummer the male? More surprising was the massive number of house sparrows. I hadn't been conscious of seeing fewer about at home, but the park was like one from my childhood as far as sparrows count!
