I think I’d say “it’s a lot windier up there” or similar if I saw such a family heading up - but I dont feel experienced or qualified to
say anything really,

I liked Ullock and the surrounding area when we stayed in Brandlingill (last year ?) thought the few properties for sale around there were expensive though
(Ithink I know what you mean Snoot - not your average garden room :) )

I'm usually the one in shorts and a vest getting scowls from walkers in 8 layers and woolly hats, big boots and huge rucsacs!

Always a tricky one. I have said things to people along the line of 'its wild and dodgy up there' in the hopes that they realise themselves without me having to be an arse

I've been really direct with groups when they have been pretty much following me up and they have been unprepared. One day my group were in crampons as a group of young-uns just kept following us in summer gear. I did speak to them quite firmly but only as I was genuinely worried about them (and that I might have to rescue them!)

Most of them think they'll be ok but we probably know the MR stats prove otherwise. As someone just said...most folk don't take advice well

If they ask me directly I tend to be blunt; if I'm in a group I tend to walk off and leave it to someone more tactful. I'd feel bad if I didn't try and they got into trouble.

Wild drive home across Shap fell after work in Penrith yesterday evening. Even the A6 was a river. Thoughts are with Cockermouth, Keswick and Kendal with all that water to work down through the watersheds.

It's rained all night. I'm hoping I'll be able to find a road between home and work that isn't flooded. There's usually a way if I don't mind a detour.

Lull in the rain in Kendal this morning but the Kent was alarmingly high when I crossed it on my run yesterday evening - there's plenty more water up in the catchment to come down yet
