Walmart scar is some distance from the Lake District though.
Might need a plane to get over to the states for starters...

Ennerdale is meant to be the darkest area of the Lake District as I recall, it's certainly the least inhabited. I recall reading somewhere that it's one of the UK's special dark sky zones.

p.s. there are three Blea Tarns in the Lakes. The one near Watenendlath, the one in Little Langdale and there is also one in Eskdale. I'll unzip me anorak and sod off shall I?

We have a UNESCO dark skies reserve here too, in the Brecon Beacons National Park. And very glad the village fought hard not to have street lights!

if you type Blea Tarn into the search box on the online map you get the Eskdale one - I can't work out how I found the Watenendlath one by typing in a Harveys grid ref! Certainly managed to confuse myself now though.
Walna scar is probably the easiest to take a drive to with mum - assuming it's not packed with flycampers. Not sure I fancy driving around the "car park" in the dark though - it's not exactly a nice easy smooth surface is it?

No, just find a good route connecting all 3 and make it a race.

โ The Ulpha-Eskdale Green road looks like an interesting drive in the darkโ - but at least you can see cars coming toward you ๐
