How were they to the grid's detriment? Isn't levelling out demand and flattening peak periods a good thing?

LOL Baz, thanks for the reminder! All that extra light to power G's panels in the summer though ;-)

The saving sessions aren't to the grid's detriment at all (in my view). Just a relatively expensive way of incentivising the flex. I read that grid have said that they have contracts in place with gas-fired generators to provide flex at 10% of the cost of the saver session reward tariff. That's not a fair cost comparison tbh as grid also pay a retainer to the stations which wasn't used in the calculations. But that's what they did and that's what's generated the proposed 90% cut in reward. These are all great ideas - using the combined capacity of all those home / EV batteries out there has to be the way forward - it's just that we're in transition. It'll come, one day.

As I typed my email came in too. Hope I get offered an Octopus, will go and read :-)

My email from Octopus arrived this morning. Don't think there's anything of interest for me.

That's an odd time for free juice, you'd think that's a peak time for people making breakfast and morning cuppas, radiators coming on etc. Maybe they've got a surplus of wind power.

Hmmm, looking at the details it's only the extra over what you usually use that is free. Not worth it for me, I suspect. I'm all electric so I'll have everything going at that time anyway.

I was going to delay my early run tomorrow until the wind subsided, supposed to be 9 a.m.

So free electricity will suit me well instead, I'm normally running at that time and using minimal power.

On second thoughts, I have signed up. Not getting anything off the solar panels today and likely tomorrow too. So I can run the immersion heater for as long as it needs and I might as well turn on things like the towel radiators, why not if it's free.
