Brill charging report. It's just a mindset change isn't it? :-) G

So much of EV ownership is. My SIL was "needing" a new car recently so we asked if she'd looked at electric. "There's no chargers round here" was the answer, completely missing the point that she would be charging at home and never drives more than about 40 miles in a day. And she is adamant that that is the problem for her.

There are plenty of issues with EV ownership, but not having rapid charging points near home when you have a big drive and the ability to charge at home is not one of them

Looks like "off peak" pricing is finally coming to public car chargers too. Good news for those who use public chargers and can choose their time of day.

Welcome, of course. But off-peak on a rapid feels like a pretty low volume business. It's the fast chargers (7kw-11kw) that would see bigger take up with overnight pricing.

Funny, I can remember the days (!) when Instavolt was 40p all the time too!!

Sure, but if rapid is all there is, and no one is using it overnight and it's cheaper, then those without a home charging capability will be more easily able to use them. Not if they are only at major road service areas though! Needs to be near residences! :-) G

Yes, definitely - if it works for people, it works. So it's a "good thing", but I doubt massively utilised.

Last of the Time Lords
Had an email from Octopus Go offering half price charging Monday night (so that's 3.5p kWh), providing you don't charge Tuesday night. Some kind of demonstration on the benefit of intelligent charging.
