Thanks for the info. I need a charge point on Friday, so can’t wait for the card to arrive this time. But will look at getting one for the future

It's not limited to bigger cars and has been creeping upon us for few decades now. Big homes, big telly's, bigger dinner plates, bigger waistlines.... Seems we have a society so insecure and feel a need to and use as a measure their 'success" in life by newer/bigger stuff. |

Just been emailed by Octopus about the Go charging rate for post-April. Standing charges for me up from about 47p to 60p per day, rate increased by 0.75p to just over 45p, with the EV charging rate static at 12p. £70 annualised additional cost. Affordable for me, and ironically as the car is still with the dealer I'm not even benefitting from the EV rate at the moment, but another increase nonetheless. |

So annoying standing charge is so high. My usage costs are going to be less than my standing charge! ![]() |

But I can't cos Google Maps doesn't show them. They must be new! zap-map.com Zap Map has them. Ouch, 75p per kWh for 22kW chargers. ![]() |

My first time getting a bit jittery about finding a charge on my trip to Scotland this weekend. No problem getting there, but needed a top up to get back. My route was mainly A1 and I’d identified chargers at Dunbar and Berwick. At Dunbar, both were in use, though one vehicle was showing as fully charged, so I waited about 15 mins, but no one around and I headed to Berwick. First car park charger was fully occupied, second car park charger was empty, but needed an app to start charging that wouldn’t download to my phone. So, back to the first car park and about a 20 minute wait to access the charger. Then about 45 mins to charge, so I went to grab some lunch. While I was away another chap had turned up and was waiting, having explored all the other local chargers in the area, but failing to get any to work. Everyone was very understanding about the necessary delays, but it was a bit inconvenient. Oh and it was 75p/kWh to charge! Can’t really complain, as it was a bit of a one off. I’ll apply for the Charge Place Scotland card now, which will give me more options, but the A1 route north needs a bit of planning, luck and back up plans! I’ve since seen that the Tesla chargers at Purdey’s lodge are open to non- Teslas, which would be a good option. |

Travelling def requires planning and sometimes a bit of luck, but at worst it's a bit of inconvenience to take an extra hour to get charged. And even 75/kWh is still cheaper than petrol / diesel. And if you average the cost over all your home based or other cheaper charging it's still massively cheaper. ![]() ![]() |

Sorry, not at worst. At worst, an extra hour to get charged could be a real problem if in a hurry. But hopefully usually it would only be a bit of an inconvenience. I think if I were regularly travelling all over UK and Europe I would def find out the most common charging apps, cards, memberships etc. and set up in advance. It's a pain, as really we just need all the companies to come together and agree an interoperating standard. Like just all taking contactless! Make your memberships and apps etc. an add-on, give discounts etc. by all means. But make sure there's always a fall back to just "work" by accepting a payment card? ![]() |
