Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Electric car anyone?

Anyone tried British Gas EV tariff?

I’m about to roll on to Octopus Go tariff which is 12p/kWh 0030-0430

But BG are 10p/kWh 0000-0500 and my standing charge would then be 6p more per day but I’d still save over £100 a year on that tariff and it’s more convenient to get five hours charging overnight

Just wondered if there’s any reason to stay away from BG, nightmares with taking over smart meters etc

I haven't tried switching since I had smart meter fd, but I'd hope they can manage it. 10p is good for 5 hrs. Though I'm still on 7.5p with Octopus. Need to change in July though. Does BG have an export tariff too? :-) G

Not sure about export tariff.

I think if I switch to BG I will be in limbo on a standard tariff until they put their own smart meter in (they say taking over another providers might lead to loss of functionality etc) so would be out of pocket paying 32p/kWh for a while.

Could be a frustrating mess, although at the moment my meter has wrong totals for peak / off peak (battery install probably reset the meter) and Octopus CS keep confusing my problem with IHD not working properly. I can't submit a manual reading despite their repeated requests because the numbers are miles off but my bills are ok for now as they are getting half hourly usage readings.

That's interesting about BG's tariff, fd.

I'm a customer of theirs at the moment but I don't use this tariff. I'm going to do some sums. I charge at public charge points at an average cost of 25p/kWh. On paper, it looks like a good deal.

I've applied to switch to BG in a few weeks, but I'm not expecting a smooth ride:

moneysavingexpert.com

Will give them a couple of months and then move back if it's a shambles, there are no exit fees

Good to know fd, hope it goes OK. I'll be looking in July but probably going on to a less favourable charge tariff with the benefit of higher value for my export. :-) G

Self driving cars legal in UK (well, in a very limited way - Ford's Mach E, electric only, interestingly)

Safer or disaster waiting to happen?! :-) G

Does it have a special "idiot driver identification" mode, I wonder?

Has anyone any knowledge of VW ID3 or ID4? Looking to lease as second car for local driving and some of my shorter business trips.
