Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Electric car anyone?

It is difficult to measure your own and third party studies would be able to determine. UCL did one for the lockdown and found during the first 3 weeks, people’s overall well being improved and those who had mental issues either had no change or improved. I will find the study later

Skip the first 3 minutes of intro. It's a long chat but it is entertaining and simple to understand :)

RF - we obviously have a different view on activist :¬)

I shall now stun you and tell you that although I didn't listen to all of it I skipped through dropping in and out and listened to the questions at the end .

It's a mix of common sense and wishful thinking. I would call it an activist presentation.

To be fair if I get a job 5 miles from my house or less I would ride or run to work(unless it rained), we already walk the boy to school.

I found some of his car information interesting, brake particals and tyre wear

Now, tyres made from Dandilions .....

Most surprised that he was a fan of autonoumous vehicles as surely even safer(once the tech is sorted) that keeps volume on the road.

Gobi - autonomous vehicles will cause a massive drop in # of cars on the road.

As per Tony Seba (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-kbzfWzvSI&t=6s), we are looking at several disruptive technologies piling up on top of each other:
- Solar PV
- Battery Tech
- Electric Vehicles
- Autonomous vehicles

And these all feed back on each other too.

His thesis is that once EVs become *much* cheaper than ICEs (remember that they're already at parity once all lifetime costs are taken into account), it will be cheaper to hail a vehicle (uber style) that takes you where you want to go (and drives itself), why would anyone (unless you are uber wealthy and need a status symbol) want to buy a car?

There will still be private ownership, but it'll be far less than now.

He reckons that car ownership globally will fall to about 20% of current levels.
