Wriggling Snake
ok not posted for a while, as usual.

Old man seems well, 100% turnaround after his illness/cataract episode. House has been valued, a flat with in-house help looked at, deposit to put down in April, move will be in October. Milton Keynes, this is because that is where the older brother lives and has no intention of moving (we may well do, back down South within a few years).

This weekend entailed a bit of meeting with neighbours who have an eye on dad's house and put in an offer (too low I think), but we will see. My old man was letting his gob run away with him, I wish he wouldn't

Quite an amazing change, me and the old man have had words on several occasions, I am a bit blunt, also talked with older brother and SiL about how to go about this which has been good, funny too we all have stories about what a stubborn old git he is. A few obstacles to overcome, not least tidying up his house, just to make moving easier, I had a go after mum's death, but dad got a bit aggy with that so had to desist, time to try again. Maybe early summer when all my other stuff has hopefully been sorted.

Good really, good.

Good news, WS.

Our resident antique will be moving soon. His "golden child" daughter is looking for a flat close to where she lives. I'm annoyed that I wasn't told the extent to which FiL does not live nicely with others before we pulled our house around to accommodate him, but I'll get over it.

There's always a golden child, V'rap. I've just been reminding the one in our family to get his finger out and take the EPA round to our mother for signature whilst she is in a relatively good phase and might remember we spoke about it again at the weekend!

Hubby suffers from being an only child...so no siblings to do more work. He's used to arguing with people...as a lawyer it has come in handy. Gather the facts and batter people with them! ;)

My sibling has been no-contact with my parents for several years, for good reasons that my parents can't get their heads around, but I believe they'd do as much as they could cope with doing if the need arose, as would my children.

Thanks, LMH. It WILL happen. FiL still has his own house in Wales and we're prepared to return him to it, sorting out the transfer of medical care and suchlike because we're not completely heartless and irresponsible, if an acceptable flat isn't found within a reasonable period of time.

Sounds as though the situation has deteriorated since you took him in V'rap? I hope it all happens quickly.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
