Sorry for your loss minardi.

It's great that your mum settled into her new flat so well Mandy. Hope your dad is recovering well.

FiL is still in hospital - the care element of his funding has been agreed but they are still arguing about the nursing component.

That must be tough minardi. My wifes cousin lost both her parents in the space of 3 or 4 months just over a year ago.

MiL had her cycstoscopy on Wednesday and results inconclusive and she is to go back again in 3 months time. This seems good news for now.

Wife had a call last night from MiL reporting her brother was unwell with some unspecified illness that only men get and she was very concerned. Given MiL no longer capable of looking after him expectation is my wife goes round today to care for her brother. BiL replied to a text to say he is fine and didnt disclose what is wrong with him!

Our visit later today will no doubt centre totally on this issue. Still its better than the circular debate we had over a tube of toothpaste last week

Its quite possible that post cystoscopy she has a UTI and some of this is part of the hallucinations she has.

Last time she was in hospital with a UTI we had repeated calls one day as BiL had reported to her that he was close to death. He was up north Ski-ing. We had to go to hospital and call him so he could speak to her and say there was nothing wrong with him. MiL was adamant his voice had come out of the walls !!!

So sorry to hear this minardi. We may no longer be visiting MiL in May - depends on what the coronavirus is doing between now and then, both here and in Canada. We can change our (already booked) flights to later in the year for a small fee...so will be playing the trip by ear.

That worked, did it? We video called my dad to convince my mother he had not in fact died in the night. She just looked at the screen and said how good looking he had been, and could we let the carers know he was dead, please?

She is home now and not far off her state before going in to hospital.

Not really badger, she still thought we were all telling porkies.

LMH, almost certainly is a UTI. These UTIs started when she had a series of cystoscopies about 5 years ago and always followed one of these.

I'm sorry if it's inappropriate Badger but that did make me smile.

It's a wonder they aren't getting resistant to the antibiotics Baz.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
