Mum and dad's flat went in the market today. Haven't a clue as to how fast (or slow!) it's likely to move.

In MIL's case, she's still alive...but moved into a care home, so wanted to sell the house as we couldn't keep the house as a bolthole, due to insurance issues and no one living in the house.

MilLs flat still has no insurance as that’s another on BiLs stubborn rejection list.

Latest is the funeral directors chasing us as he hasn’t collected his half of his mums ashes.

The guy has real issues.

I changed the existing insurance to unoccupied and pay it from the estate (we're fortunate they had some savings, I hadn't really thought about their pensions paying for bills)

We did the same Lizzie, just kept the S/O going but changed the policy.

Baz he really does have issues but hopefully the undertaker is hounding him to collect them.

I'd tell the undertaker to take that up with him and leave you out of it Baz.

Get them to tell him a deadline or they will dispose of them (even if that Mrs Baz took them )

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
