Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’m trying to work out how an 85 year old with no internet access has arranged a delivery to someone from a florist hundreds of miles away in Macclesfield.

Wouldn’t mind but I never even got a birthday card 😂

If only she could do anything nice for the folk who do everything for her(not me), but for the best part of 20 years that hasn’t been the case.

Don’t blame the person, blame the illness. But that’s hard when it’s hurtful over such a prolonged period.

It is Ally and you can't put everything down to the illness - as she's just evidenced.

Lawyer says probate may be 8-12 weeks now. I’ll believe it when I see it but that’s a cause for some optimism.

But coincidence we had a lawyer update tonight and one of our questions back is how long they think conformation (ie probate) will take. We were hoping less than 8-12 weeks, but if thats the guide ad we are behind your then its 12-16 weeks away I guess

I hope that's the case @jda for you!
I listened and nodded non-commitally to a guy from Co-Op Legal Services for about 40 minutes yesterday, whilst he tried to sell us their services for Probate mainly by telling me how many people struggle with the form filling process. His "fixed price" was double what the solicitors who were holding Mum's will quoted, and we thought they were expensive! And of course, they have no control over what speed the probate courts work at.

I'm quite looking forward to doing it myself now!

The info for the probate forms isn't mega complicated (unless your finances are) but the forms are mind boggling (compared to, for instance, a self-assessment tax return)!

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
