I've been reading and following along on this thread for a good while now and it's been interesting, informative and heartbreaking at times.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the contributors.

My Dad has been poorly for a couple of years, and has had an interesting health history, surviving a number of brain hemorrhages and prostate cancer, but sadly after a terrible 10 days, yesterday was his last.

So while their is obviously great sadness, there is a little relief too.

You didn't know you were supporting me, but you were, thank you.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
