It does seem to be the way when you are elderly.

Hopefully he will settle in nicely.

My dad took to it better that we had first thought although being the cantankerous bugger he was I think some days (especially in the early days) he could be a pain.

Sounds good jda - hope he settles in well and things are a bit less stressful for you going forward.

Sister was at mum's at 2am this morning as mum was distressed. Today's the first day mum has stayed in bed, and the decline seems dramatic. Doctor this morning reckons she may only have 48 hours. We've managed to arrange a Marie Curie nurse for tonight (10pm - 7am) which is a blessing. Both sister and I are pretty tired - sister in particular.
[Just got call from friend who's with mum now - mum is asking for me to come and lift her up a bit in bed, so I'll be off]

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
