My newt for today has been to put up my new bird feeder in my garden. It needs a better base and two of the feeders are yet to be put out because I need to get seed from the supermarket tomorrow but it's a start.

I snapped a load of food pics - (not my dinners) on my morning constitutional. I have been known to photograph food stalls and caffs and markets ... but usually in EUROPE. *sigh*

I went back to the woods that I was biking at yesterday. Ernie and I investigated some more paths and worked out some more routes :) It’s lovely out there.

Pukka teas arevexcellent! I may have abput 10 different ones and my NEWT is the Pukka Lemongrass and ginger. It is rather superb: refreshing and warming.

I have a guilty pleasure and it is growing citrus/collecting citrus trees. It takes about 18 months in our climate for a fruit to ripen from flowering. For this I move the trees into a heated greenhouse in winter, where they spend 6 months of the year being treasured.

Citrus flowers at the same time as fruit sets and ripens, so you have always got different stages of fruit on the go. The tree stops flowering when it deems to have enough fruit that is ripe for its procreation. That is where I come in and pick the fruit and eat it.
The skins are thick and the fruit isn't the juiciest, due to its slow growth process. 10-12 months is normal in the mediterranean, here it takes 18 nonths! Very tasty though and nothing beats growing your own!

About This Thread

starblackheartstar The sixth running of Do a New Thing for Spring starblackheartstar

Lent has a special and specific meaning to Christians but has become an secular season of denial and hair shirting that serves no positve purpose. No chocolate, no booze, no -er - other stuff.

Why not treat the build up to Easter - as a chance to celebrate and embrace NEW THINGS - that's what spring is about after all.

The first few pages of the thread give more ideas.
