Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

jelly (limegreenjelly)
Well hubby came home from work and got it going, it seemed to have jammed in gear even though it said it was in neutral, so I’ve taken it up for its service! Then he couldn’t get the car roof to go down, it’s getting stuck, but it’s due to go in for its MOT and service in a couple of weeks!

Just trying to have a chilled afternoon after a busy morning!!

Today's newt is sitting in the airing cupboard.

Early on in Not Lent I bought a couple of books, one of which, 'Midnight Chicken', is a collection of recipes with attached stories. Sort of.

Today I have made 'Wicked Stepmother Black Bread'. The author is at pains to tell us that her stepmother wasn't the least bit wicked but she did make fabulous black bread. I love dark, treacley rye bread so am hoping this works out. Always touch and go with a new bread recipe.

It has grated carrot, rye flour, strong white, treacle, butter and cider vinegar amongst the ingredients - plus fennel and caraway seeds.

Cross your fingers!

They are quite big Newts, GG. That's why I've been prevaricating about them (for about 2 years!) But my house looks a mess and it stresses me out and really it shouldn't be THAT hard to find someone to slap some paint on it! :-)

So far so good with the bread. Now proved twice and it's in the oven. It satisfactorily increased to twice the volume before the first proving - smells like a brewery! Very yeasty.

It's ages since i made bread - I taught Raffo and he's now the Master Baker.

About This Thread

starblackheartstar The sixth running of Do a New Thing for Spring starblackheartstar

Lent has a special and specific meaning to Christians but has become an secular season of denial and hair shirting that serves no positve purpose. No chocolate, no booze, no -er - other stuff.

Why not treat the build up to Easter - as a chance to celebrate and embrace NEW THINGS - that's what spring is about after all.

The first few pages of the thread give more ideas.
