Actually not much of a fan of films, attention span too short!
Couldn't name 7 at first - eventually came up with:

ET
Blues Brothers
Italian Job
Life of Brian
Shaun of the dead
King's Speech

Men in Black.

runners up (ie other films I could name) include:
The Outlaw Jessie Wales
Armaggedon
Sense and Sensibility

Diogenes
Grosse Pointe Blank, North By North West, Withnail all on my reserve list.

Interesting that very few children’s movies, especially animated ones, chosen so far. Also, no epics such as Gone With The Wind, Lawrence Of Arabia, Dr Zhivago, Ghandi...

Similarly light on war films...

Which reminds me: The Deer Hunter

Great thread, two comments
1. We've got a great Wiki in Fetch where you can review (one sentence!) your films. I created it mainly because I love hearing other, trusted (Fetchies!) people's opinions on books, films etc. So this one is for films.

2. You lot have just become my instant go-to place for where to find inspiration for movies I either haven't watched for ages, have heard of but never watched, or have never even heard of. If they are on you Desert Island list, they must be good.

If you could add even one review into the Wiki above, I'd be awfully grateful - why are those your top 7? Why your number one? Esp if it's something more unusual. Fanks!

It's a Wonderful Life
Groundhog Day
Beetlejuice
Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back
Philadelphia Story
The Bourne Supremacy
Mission Impossible

2 old ones, 2 action, a sci fi, a horror comedy and an unclassifiable!

Philadelphia Story's attitude to class and treatment of women probably doesn't stand up very well but the acting and comedy and direction is just wonderful. It's A Wonderful Life is obviously uplifting and a great tale. I'm obviously a Bill Murray fan, but you need things that you are happy to watch over and over and Beetlejuice is def one for me - love Tim Burton style, love Danny Elfman music. Star Wars - chosen Empire Strikes Back because even though it's the "middle one" I know the stories so well it doesn't matter. And it has some of the most wonderful scenes "I am your father"! Bourne and Mission Impossible are both fast paced entertainment. MI the first just because I still like it best. And Bourne Supremacy is random. I can re-watch any of the first 3.

And I reserve the right to totally change my mind!

What are your reasons? :-) G

Oh and Groundhog Day is because you can do it over and over and even though it's the same you can learn to love the same. Obv! :-) G
