Well I got an airplay 3 and love it, although now of course I want another one :-)

Very easy to setup and use, excellent sound quality too

I treated myself to a Play 3 just before Christmas. I'm running it wirelessly and performance seems fine (it is in the same room as my Apple AirPort Express which I've had for years to boost my wifi as router is the other end of the house).

I've got my music stored on a Synology NAS drive which is always on so no issues with that once I'd given it a reserved IP address.

I've got an Ipad 2 running iOS 7 which has slightly limited functionality (eg can't seem to stream Spotify) but my wife's iPhone running latest iOS is fine. Original Sonos setup wouldn't work on iOS7 either but again iPhone was fine and easy.

I love my Sonos kit. I have a Play5, and three of those cube things attached to various bits of audio kit around the house.

I have all my mp3s on a NAS drive, and also use Sonos to play radio, Spotify, mix cloud, Amazon music, soundcloud,...

Great system

Rejuvenating this thread as I'm curious and have a birthday coming up.

Can't quite get my head around the fact that these things cost so much, so are they worth the money? And how easy is it really to move around the house with "multi-room"?

Our base use-case is Spotify for music, BBC Sounds for lots of other content and a pre-existing "relationship" with Alexa via an Echo Show 5 in the kitchen. Was looking at the soundbar options (the "Ray"?) to replace a "cheap and cheerful" soundbar I've got with the TV maybe, and then perhaps extending in future years / birthdays with the odd standalone speaker in other rooms.

Hey Larkim, i have added to the collection with a sound bar for the TV which is great, and a couple more play 3's, but i've had problems with the app and setting them up "properly", it might be me though, i'm not the sharpest :-)

I suppose it's that app side of things which I'm as curious about; all the reviews indicate sound quality is on the good side of acceptable, and I'm no audiophile (and if spotify is the source, then that's a compromise anyway).

My better half will roll her eyes as I mention to her I'm looking at this as she is more than happy to walk around the house with her phone speaker playing Radio 4 at here, or reading out audio books etc.

I have spotted that the "Ray" soundbar is available via Sonos' official store as a a refurb option at a half-decent price (£209 vs £279) so that's my most likely toe-dipping that I will do; would be nice to be able to sit in the lounge and fire up some music without having to toggle bluetooth / connect etc, and then have it seamlessly revert to the TV sound when the TV is turned on. First world problems and all that etc.

I was honestly expecting that one could buy a 3 or 4 speaker setup for about £150 and pop them around the house; can't quite get my head around the price of some of the items!

One thing they are very good at is making audio follow you round the house with no stutter or interruption to the audio stream. (They form their own mesh network, which helps them support each other signal-wise, and makes stream sync very easy.) For example, if I am moving from one room to another and don't ever want to be out of earshot, I first set the sound to come out in both rooms synced, then turn off the starting room when at the destination (e.g., moving from kitchen to cellar).

Thanks both for the input. Decided that the refurb price on the Ray was worth a punt, now looking enviously at the other speaker options, but can't justify £200+ on another room option just now.

Got something to say?
