Remember Keefy Beefy (Kif-Kif)? He always used to recommend Hoop Dreams, but I've never watched it.

In response to :)G.

Shawshank Redemption - it's a great film. I can't quantify that.

Star Wars: A New Hope - nostalgia as much as anything. We had it on VHS and I watched it all the time as a kid. I have passed it down the generations to QP and nephew (4.3) who both love it too (as well as the other originals).

Dirty Dancing - nostalgia again. I watched it a lot in my pre-/adolescence.

Guardians of the Galaxy* (that soundtrack :-)) - I went in expecting to hate this film. I mean it has a bloody talking raccoon for god's sake. It is funny and entertaining and heart warming. The soundtrack is awesome!

Jaws - great film! Nostalgia: we watched it one Christmas and my dad then hid my shark attack game in my bed and scared the b'jesus out of me. QP now rates it as one of his favourite films and he is seriously into films.

It's a Wonderful Life - Christmas spirit in movie format. It makes me cry and we all need a bit of that occasionally.

Dead Poets Society - I haven't watched it in years but it keeps popping into my head recently. Robin Williams at his best. A message of hope for those who feel constrained by societal norms and expectations.

(Re: Hunt for the Wilderpeople...I am definitely to blame for it appearing on Fetch's list. PaulaMc is to blame for it appearing on mine! See? Fetch is a wonderful place!)

'School For Scoundrels' [1960]. A sublime study by Alastair Sim on how to be one up on your rivals in love, business, sport, cars etc. Ian Carmichael is the ingénue who learns to triumph over Terry-Thomas and 'graduates' with honours.

Delightfully British.

- Hidden Figures

+ Young Frankenstein

Hidden Figures was a rushed mistake to list a more modern film.

If you like Hunt for the Wilderpeople, try What We Do In the Shadows. Same director, different genre. Vampire mockumentary. It's flippin hilarious! :-) G
