57.5 Degrees of Pain
Who knew there were Alba Party MPs?
The entire history of independence movements would suggest that they morph into the, or at least a, major political party. Power is an addictive thing.

If nothing else they'll need to stand on a set of policies that doesn't include "campaigning for Scottish Independence", which will see them become a very different thing.

bbc.co.uk I forgot there are parties other than SNP and Scottish Greens who support Scotland's chance to have another independence debate! G
Apparently Hanvey was suspended by the SNP before the election but was on the ballot paper as the SNP candidate.

My tartan tories was in jest. That said their is a right wing element to the snp who keep quiet as that’s the route to independence.
The sturgeon approach being in tatters has a few angles
Bain doesn’t believe holyrood can bring a bill forward. This has therefore been referred to the Supreme Court at sturgeons insistence We know they can only rule against it
But actually they are more likely to not hear the case until there is a bill to be looked at for legality. And why is that ? Because the precedent comes from the snp using just that argument when one of their members tried a similar ruse last year. So it’s back to Bain, but she knows holyrood doesn’t have competence and so can’t allow the bill to proceed.
Where does that leave us, Scotland is denied a democratic voice cries sturgeon. Now actually I do have some sympathy with that point of view. However it’s pretty clear it’s very tight with no looking to have the edge so neither side really wants a referendum now
Unfortunately that means we are unresolved and divided for quite some time.
Still, the snp think 19/10/23 is going to happen.

Looks like quite a clever plan for them, then? Keeps the issue on the boil, no chance of an embarrassing loss, probably boosts their vote in the next GE. Some tatters!

I didn’t think the thread was purely indychat. I was going by the thread title but seeing The starting post … maybe thats wrong.

“. Back on topic. In the squabbling over indyref2, our Dear Leader has said that if she doesn't get her vote she'll make the next Scottish election a referendum on independence and nothing else. Good politics for the SNP I'm sure. But is it any way to run a democracy? “”
It’s odd but I though the general election was for voting in members of parliament and it was not a referendum on independence. Perhaps I should deem it to be a game of bingo instead and take my dibber into the booth.
