The sad thing is that as Davie said you have to do your own research into this to get a full picture, the media is full of misinformation and can't be trusted to give an unbiased story. I hope that more people will try to look into it more and not just be happy with the party line, I kind of feel sad when people say they'll vote no for X reason when that reason has been proven incorrect/unfounded elsewhere - fair enough to be a no, just be a well-informed one! |

Channel 4 are currently running a poll. channel4.com When I submitted my answers there had been 3608 responses and the poll was sitting at 80/20 in favour of independence. |

Some really interesting discussion and links being posted here, and very reassuring to see it all being done at an adult level I'm still undecided for similar reasons to Boab, but I'd be more inclined to vote yes if there were also proposals to shake up the council system as well - after all these are the people who are responsible for (mis-)spending a very large chunk of our taxes etc. and I see no plans to alter that in the future. The politicians may or may not be any use, and may control the major decisions like which wars we fight, but the people who make most difference to your day to day life are actually pretty faceless and a lot less accountable so I suspect life after independence might not be as radically different as people might think. |

It will be a process and given the damage that has been to the country over especially the last thirty years it could be a very long process. But until we start it, we will never get anywhere. What I would like to see done in the early days (and I think it is something that will be a priority and something that small, hobbled steps have been taken towards already) is making sure that everyone in Scotland has adequate, affordable housing. Something that there is approaching zero interest in at Westminster. |

the Adult conversation is worrying no slapstic at all! Everything moves at a Glacier pace in the UK - look at the recent stats concerning our viewing habits www.couldnotbebothered with fininding it.com even with a multitude of viewing platforms availible, most people still watch the telly box. and thats the way an old established country should be in my opnion - once the vote has taken place, either way, then we the people of the British Isle's will move to a new political understanding - we will still carry on sharing a great deal. |

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Interesting thread. I moved back to Scotland (after years of being someone else's 'immigrant') specifically to follow the debate 5 years ago so it is fun now we are getting close to the decision. To avoid repetition I agree with a lot of Wirral Dave and Jono's points. Having lived for some years in the US, a Federal system with powers reserved to States unless specifically ceded to the centre seems to work well, except there the Federal gov't has all the money and the States or smaller political units most of the financial obligations. Time in New Zealand shows what a small country with a good sense of identity can do despite a slightly shaky financial base. I had an interesting talk with a couple of (English) northerners |

57.5 Degrees of Pain
(continued as I hit the wrong button!) last week and they were not impressed with the idea of having even more power end up in the southeast if Scotland is independent. I suspect that just as the Spanish want to avoid debate on successful parts of a larger entity getting a right to self determination, a lot of London politicians want to avoid any encouragement of English regionalism, even if the current situation seems to have the 'Little Englanders' of UKIP and the Tory right increasing their influence. |

well thats the worring trend - despite listening to a program the other week about how London needs the rest of england etc etc it doesn't feel that way - city / county councils are the way forward, no need to make up a whole new system of government. However the one thing that comes out from this thread is the need for Westminister to actualy do less sorry back to all things Scotish |
