I have THE worst sense of direction. If I managed not to get lost last year, then you’ll be fine. Trust me!

Time difference between GO33 and D33? Well at my standard I'd have thought a lot more than 10 mins, but the inclines /hills /near vertical slope / need ropes out of Killin will slow me down proportionately more than a speedy guy. I'd have said at least 30 minutes extra for a plodder.

D33 is a tarmac carpet for the first 7 miles, slightly rising in elevation as it leaves Aberdeen, then road from 8 miles just before the 1/4 checkpoint for another few, then decent trail for a bit, and finally a bit rough and boggy the last two miles before halfway at Banchory. Then all in reverse. Last 2.5-3 miles has some good constant gradual descent, without ever feeling hilly, it being an old railway line, so you can blast it even though there's not much left in the tank, there's no nasty surprises to hold back for. Don't take any notice of the several "3 miles to Duthie Park" signs or you'll get rather despondent :-)

99.9% of the course is impossible to take a wrong turning on - just be vigilant where it goes near a road or there's a fork in the trail. It's not a high risk route for wrong turns.

Last year I managed splits of 2:27 2:28 2:28 2:27 at the four checkpoints. I'd defo take that this year but alas with my rubbish training i fear it'll be one of the "other years" where the 2nd half is a death march back. Character-building, as Dod says :-)

Secret is not to get carried away at the start, of course. Easier said...

You had me well confused there, 10 hours !!!!!, before I checked your race history M1nty

I think your 4 splits from last year should perhaps start with a 1, not a 2 :-P

I did have to chase after a guy while screaming my head off and blowing my whistle when he went the wrong way last year. Not what I needed 24 miles in. He had headphones in and had no idea until I nearly caught up with him.

Oops, thanks K5 Gus!That was my Guardian-level first-edition fact-checking :-) 1:27 1:28 1:28 1:27 I'm sure the Killin News has better quality control. Hopefully, as with the Grauniad, though, you get the gist :-)

Reckon you could aim for 4:20 if you're in good shape :-)

Haha. Totally could have won if it wasn’t for that ;)

I’ll be down to cheer you all on at some point if I can face it!

They have been doing some path improvements at the Banchory end. More drainage I think. Will need to pop down again and see. There were also diggers near Crathes a few weeks ago so I’m assuming they did work there too.

I am hoping to be at half way to cheer folk, all depends on the baby and his feeding times. I will have him with me, look for the green buggy and say Hi 🙂.
