Dod, we're all rooting for you.

He actually called me a silly wa*&er at the Glen Ogle Ceilidh. Only Did would have me in fits of laughter after that. Something about pinning race numbers on backs.

My first ever group ultra run on the WHW - or anywhere in fact - was a Fetch run led by George and Karen in the snow over Conic Hill back in Jan 2010..

I turned up the night before at Balmaha because from lurking on Fetch I'd heard chatter there would be a run and folk were meeting up the night before at The Oak Tree Inn. I didn't know any faces back then and was disappointed there weren't any runner tyoes in the bar. Just one raucous group obviously out on a bender drinking shots and getting hammered. So I called it a night and turned up at the rendezvous at Drymen car park next morning in the deep snow...

... Assembled in front of me in their best lycra were all the pi$$heads from the bar the night before. Dod, Karen, Sandra, Mike and others. And do you think I managed to keep up with them on the run? Not a chance. Santababy nursemaided me back from Rowardennan as my legs had gone to jelly. Fun days.

M1nty - I love that story. I struggle to marshal after a night out with that crowd, I'd probably die if I tried to run.

Less than 5 weeks to go...............

Looking for some comparison between D33 and GO33 for those that have done both ( _andy looks like you've done both a few times, but others probably as well ).

GO33 generally measures a bit short at anywhere between about 32.3 and 32.5 ( this is the new route starting at Killin, not the old one starting at Strathyre which was only about 31.5 ), D33 looks like it'is pretty much 33.

GO33 has about 800-850m of climbing, whereas D33 about 300'ish m.

So does the extra distance of D33 balance out the extra climbing of GO33 and the overall effort about the same ?

If you were at the same fitness level for both races, which would be quicker and by roughly how much ?

Trying to work out what pace to aim for at D33, and it feels like overall pace should be a bit faster than average GO33 pace.

Thoughts ?

I thought the D33 was quite a bit easier than the GO33.

Glen Ogle was shorter granted. I went the wrong way for about half a mile on the D33 too(followed someone!). But was still 10 minutes faster than GO.

I'd say ave pace at D33 should be quicker. Though you're pretty strong on hills Gus, so maybe that climb out of Killin doesn't hurt you as it does me!

Ironically (on the old GO course 31.5!) my GO33 pace was almost identical to my D33. But I started the D33 deliberately slowly and did it as a progressive. Should be 10 or 15 mins quicker, I'd think? Enjoy! :-) G

I've done D33 nine times and Glen Ogle only once and it was last year when the weather was heavy rain. I really enjoyed Glen Ogle and felt strong but maybe because I prefer hills and it was a totally new route, I ran it all with a good friend and wasn't racing. I would predict must people would be quicker at D33.

D33 has mileage signs that are wrong about 3 miles from the end which psychologically is a pain in the ass.
