Thanks for feedback all, still not decided if I'm "racing" it or just treating it as a long steady training run for the Fling.
The temptation will certainly be to push on a bit, but wait and see what the weather's like and how I feel.
Will ignore the signs and trust the watch

How on earth does D33 give c300m of climb? It's mostly old railway line so almost completely flat with one very short slope up a field and one long slow descent on a quiet road. Glen Ogle doesn't have a flat yard in it. I'd be very surprised if (for equal amounts of fitness and weather) D33 wasn't significantly easier and faster.

I would say that the deeside line has a 1 to 3 % gradient from duthie Park to Peterculter.

Agree UC. It is ever so slightly up hill out of Aberdeen. The return on the bike was always easier.

300m is only a bit over 1% overall. We forget that 33 miles is really quite a long way!
Signs, shmigns. You're supposed to be planning your night time drinking exploits by 3 miles from the finish!
I looked back at my race log and it goes 10s, 9s eventually down to 7 somethings, but with 1 min stops at each of the 3 aid stations (yacking and hugging!) and a 6:55 final mile. It was certainly a fun way to do it! G

So maybe it's not 300m, that was just what Fetch says in _andy's log, but as we know fetch doesn't use barometric data even if the watch has it, but goes and looks up a database of known heights for given GPS coords. It's certainly not an exact science, it gives Cramond parkrun as 40m of climbing !!! For info, Duthie Park seems to be 10m above sea level, and Banchory about 50-55m (depending where exactly we turn), but I'm sure there's lots of little ups and down on the way there and back

There was actually a wee climb up a brae as you go away from the railway line briefly, up to the main road and back down. I can't remember if that was a diversion or if that is always the route. Mrs s, as an ever present, will be able to tell you.
Fetch's should be accurate, as it uses map heights, along the line of your GPS trace. As long as your GPS trace is accurate. Barometric isn't great at flats either though is it Gus? The tiny perturbations in pressure adding up over the duration etc? Barometric is best when actually ascending or descending of course. And when on the hill, not correcting back at a computer too, of course. G
