Great news, Fetch 😀 There’s very little in the way of women’s cricket round here, other than a Really Established side about 20 miles away…. I’d like to find somewhere where I could just have a go at winter nets as a starter. Then realise just how terrible I am 🤣🤣 There’s been no more women’s softball tournaments organised locally you could just rock up to like I did pre-Covid. I keep checking and have used the ECB ‘play your way’ gizmo too. I didn’t mind Tuffers until earlier on this year during one of the women’s matches where he just came across as a total prick until Kathryn Sciver-Brunt put him in his place. I might forgive him eventually. |

Vaughan generally causes eye rolling as he’s quite snidey. Daggers really knows his stuff with the women’s game, and I like listening to Broady too. Isha’s fab, as is KSB. She just says it exactly like it is. And Alison Mitchell’s just great. |

Our village team have a women's side now. Some of the youngsters who have come through the junior section are really good, but the players who have just taken it up really struggle with technique. There are a range of weird and wonderful bowling actions on display, some of which even propel the ball in the direction of the stumps. I don't mean make fun of them or demean their efforts, just to note how difficult a game it is to start later on in life. |

Bowling is the very hardest bit. Local club up the road is struggling with the demand of running teams at all levels for both sexes. It has crossed my mind to join and help with the coaching stuff, but, and it's a big but, I still coach during the week. Pre covid, 4 evenings a week at times. I will no longer do that , but I think I might help out at Cricket once I jack coaching at the uni in.

@phal perhaps you could put some feelers out on local FB groups, or with local cricket clubs, to see if there are any interested players. Several years ago, I organised a block of 8 weeks of cricket nets - we got about 5-6 people turning up each week - and we covered the cost of hiring the venue (one of the local schools) between us. It was a bit nerve-wracking wondering if anyone would turn up, and our standard varied - but it ended up being decent fun.

I think we paid something like £20ph for the use of the nets - and we did two hours per week - so I think a tenner each more than covered it.

Many many women (including Mrs Nico) struggle with the bowling at softball level. They are just encouraged to get the ball down in any way they can. (underarm is allowed). In festivals they are even allowed to bowl from closer. Like you say, some odd actions and a lot of "chucking" but nobody lets it spoil the games. Batting technique too, you can always tell the experienced players because they hit off side. Most women score through cow corner. |
