No-one else from Yorkshire please - it's already starting to look like a Lancastrian / Surrey conspiracy, having Bresnan, Ballance, Root and Bairstow all likely to be out of county action for much of next summer... ;)

I wonder if Swann is just aware that now is the time for changes to occur and feels that by quitting now we've got two tests to see if Monty can stake his claim for a place long-term. I'm not convinced by Monty, but also not convinced there is an alternative at the moment.

Given that two of our senior players have now left the tour, and potentially test cricket, you have to wonder how many of our 2015 Ashes squad will have experience of beating Australia in a series, despite the fact we did it just two summers earlier.

To be fair to Kerrigan he's only bowled about a dozen overs at test level -albeit the first half a dozen were a disaster.

Selection has now got to be Monty for the foreseable future I think too.

I reckon Monty has these two tests and the first two of the summer as a cert, unless Tredwell does something. They're the only real options short-term.

There's a massive chance for any youngish spinner in county cricket to stand up at the beginning of the next county championship and say "pick me" - be that Briggs, Borthwick, Kerrigan, Rashid or anyone else. If not, they'll stick with Tredwell and Monty for next winter as well.

Hopefully Tony Parmesan will have a good summer with Essex. Tredders will definitely be the ODI spinner so Monty will get some county games in.

So here we are: brutalised by hostile, 90mph + bowling and agressive batting backed up with Aussie sledging and machismo, the Ashes lost already and the spine of the team disintegrating. The requirement now is basic: show some cojones, stand up to it and maybe give some back - otherwise this series could be an era defining kicking that could take a generation to recover from, like 1989.

With that need in mind...Jim Tredwell's on a plane. We are saved. Go get 'em Jim!

Well KP's made it pretty clear that he's going to carry on as he always has and I guess from his comments that he is definitely playing the next test match. I'm glad in a way as someone has to take the fight to the Aussies and not just defend.

It's amazing how the loss of two players has upset the apple cart so much, however it is mor than that. Swann's comments show that all isnot well within the England camp, and I can only think it is KP, remember Cook is in charge and welcomed him back with open arms, fine, but it seems KP has not changed, time for him to go.

With the loss of form of Cook and Prior and Troot gone the mainstay of Englands batting is gone for now. In the future I see Cook not being captain, I see Carbs staying, Bell must move up the order to 4, prior will come back he is only 31, so there is a space at number 5, why not give Balance a go. Stokes at 7, Panesar must be the spinner, Anderson wil play for now, but his old mucker Swann has gone so I think he may too, sooner than we all think. Finn, Borad If fit, Rankin, Why not, we may get a new team out of it. Borthwick could be excellent in the end. Looks a little light in batting, but the real trouble is we can't bowl people out, we must bowl people out.

Cook, Carbs, Root, Bell, Balance, Prior, Stokes, Broad, Finn, Rankin, Panesar
