I can imagine it's really disappointing to miss a marathon when you've done all that training, but please don't do it. I wouldn't recommend it if you were recovering from flu and covid has the potential to do much worse damage.
You won't want to hear this but there will be other marathons in the future, don't risk wrecking your body to do this one.

I wouldn’t do it. Just not worth the long term risks.
I also wouldn’t give your place to somebody else for a number of reasons. I have a place for Loch Ness I’m not going to be able to use but just have to suck up the financial loss (I’m still quids in as I don’t have to pay for the hotel, is how I’m looking at it)

Might be worth sending them a doctors letter if you can get one? I got a refund back in 2018 when I wasn't fit to run it.

Thanks for all the replies - you are all saying what I was trying to avoid. In reality, I walked two miles today and I’m exhausted.
To clarify, I think I still have time to do an official exchange of the number if anyone’s interested, but as thinking is hard it might not happen. Not today, anyway. Thanks, all.
And good point about the hotel, M-N! Still got time to cancel that if we want. 😁

Thanks for the idea, DoricQuine. Might give it a try. I don’t understand why companies like to encourage people to run when they’re ill or injured - there surely can’t be that many in any given race? 🤔

Ps. Good luck with the recovery! And if you fancy a weekend in Inverness still there’s always the 10k?

Beebop: do not do it!
You risk pushing your body into "I cannot recover" mode. Really not worth it. Take your time recovering properly first. Listen to your body. Exhausted after a 2 mile walk equals no way can I run a marathon in three weeks. Hugs!

Yes that update makes it a very clear decision IMO. Losing the entry fee might be annoying but losing your health for a long period of time would be worse!
