Most importantly, on a long walk, people will still be able to grab a coffee and burger. Lovely on a nice day.

The difference between the two definitions of animal welfare will lead to confusion.

Wow busy thread, and I've not been on it all day, partly because I was tidying up this calculation:

bskiesresearch.wordpress.com

While the model underlying this calculation is quite primitive, the end result is broadly similar to this well-respected group:

cmmid.github.io

Note in the latter that their "optimistic" scenario which only has 36,000 more deaths actually modelled a severe lockdown starting in the *middle of Dec*, plus *2 million* vaccinations per week, and we are already blasting past their estimated *peak* death rate of 400 per day with no end to the rise in sight. Their other 4 scenarios all have around *100k* more deaths to come which is what my calculation also shows. Almost all of which are due to infections in the next 2 months (the deaths themselves take a little longer).

All we can do to ameliorate the situation is to delay and minimise the spread of infection so as many as possible can get vaccinated before they catch it. The new lockdown is a step in that direction though it remains to be seen how effective it actually is at cutting transmission of this new variant. Evidence suggests that it will be a difficult process.

Just stay at home. I know you can't all cut contact but anything you can do just for the next few weeks can really make a difference at this stage.

If anyone is looking for it: gov.uk

A definite 'should' only be once a day for exercise (really don't understand the reasoning behind that) and specific 'for the care and exercise of an animal'.

I think any restrictions or limitations on exercise are aimed at those who plan a day out our some other leisure activity under the guise of outdoor exercise, rather than those who are actually exercising. Give an inch, they take a mile. E.g imagine if the snow comes down and families all decide to head out sledging.

That's still only likely to be once a day though larkim?
