Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

So why does vulnerable people have to do same as the rest of the community.... FFS no wonder ‘we’ don’t have a clue. Everyone has to be focused on hand washing and sanitising as well as masks abs space.

Went to our local tonight to support and say goodbye for now (& hope they’re there when we can meet again - anyone feel like we need a remake of We’ll Meet Again’?

Some friends were in too we said hello across the floor first time we’ve seen each other in months which was nice but also sad.

Just to focus on getting through this next phase eh guys. I’m so grateful for my fitness and ability to run & walk, the space at home to spread out, that we do actually like each other, the space I have around me. I can’t imagine and I worry about others less lucky than me. Take care all

I've always been classed as clinically vulnerable :-(

gg - it feels as though the emphasis is being put on us (the more vulnerable) protecting ourselves as society as a whole/the government/whatever isn't doing a lot to help. There have been people on here suggesting that we should be left to look after ourselves or catch it and take the consequences so that the rest of society can get back to a more normal life.

Kev - exactly.

Mark - I didn't say they should be arrested, just that the system can't work without compliance.

Time (not having a go) but you say there's excellent compliance where you live but a few pages back weren't you telling us about a journey you made in to town that was against the rules?

Also classed as a vulnerable person, I will continue to stay as safe as I can whilst living an active life.

Decided I may go clothes shopping this week whilst shops are still open here, going to treat myself to a nice new outfit for Christmas Day and support local shops. Can you still try things on?

Sorry, too many posts to catch up, but one comment jumped out at me, "
The take home is that nearly 75% of deaths have occurred in those aged 75 and over."

I suspect that this is an unpopular view, but why is the age range of the dead relevant? Would society mind more or less if the same number of teenagers had died?

My Grandfather died of bowel cancer in his late 80's. It was sad but it was not a surprise and we celebrated his life and moved on. if my sister were to die of bowel cancer in her forties (unlikely but the number of deaths in that age group is increasing) I suspect it would be much more devastating. I think the same would be true of Covid.

It means you can see quite clearly that a high proportion, 90% of deaths have occurred in those over 64. To ignore that fact in your responses to the crisis seems illogical.

I'm not saying their lives are any more or less worthy but it informs our decision making.

So I think years of life lost does matter. I have read the average years of life lost per covid death is 8 years (sorry no reference) which I believe is significant. There is a big difference between 70 and 80 (speaking as someone whose parents are both on their 70s.

I do believe to a very large degree we are in control of our own exposure and we need to assess our own level of risk. The vast majority have managed to avoid catching this over the past 8 months. If people are being careless and increasing exposure to risk we need to more careful to mitigate that risk.

So they are testing everyone in Liverpool.... let’s see what they decide to do when the numbers go up!! But would be interesting if they identify everyone positive and those people do the right thing and properly isolate to see the result.
