In Scotland, Hogmanay is bigger than Christmas. My mum (who is German) said that was her observation having lived in both England and Scotland (trying to be non-partisan about the issue)! G

I'll admit I've got a very English-centric view. Which isn't ideal!

meanwhile a further 310 deaths and cases today 24701 with 1227 more in hospital (now 9520) and 802 on ventilation. Given the improvement in care if people are on ventilation things must be bad |

When (if at all) might we be looking for signs in the data that the measures in place across the North of England or those put in place by Sturgeon in Scotland earlier are having any impact? I suppose in the absence of a "control group" it's tough to identify what is a change due to implemented measures and what's just the "normal" course of events.

Is that 'on ventilation' as in 'on a ventilator' though or does it include those on CPAP? I don't believe that xmas has much to do with Christianity for the majority in this country. |

Our local county council (Durham) is reporting our cases are dropping as is Sunderland (according to a friend) which is why they’ve avoided a move to T3 (so far) One set of figures that you could 100% trust would be amazing. On my cousins daughter who tested positive following year 10 being sent home due to 2 positive cases. My cousin contacted parents of kids H knew she’s been in contact with one of which is a friends son. Friend told me today the school still haven’t passed that information on. |

This is why we need to get to a "new normal". If more people, did less bad stuff and more good stuff (wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining a distance, smaller groups, not getting drunk and hugging and partying etc.), more of the time, we'd need LESS harsh restrictions (like travel bans, closed all shops on the high street, family can't visit at all et.) And testing and quarantining for only 2 weeks for those who are infectious. NOT locking us all down, for months at a time. Groundhog Day. G |
