I genuinely had no clue who she was. My interest in popular beat combos ceased with Fluff Freeman.

I am listening to her right now, thanks for the recommendation. Not sure I'll become a fan but I can see why she's earned enough to pay her Covid fines.

A while back I asked:
If the new SA variant is at the 150 case level in the UK does it follow that sooner or later, "unchecked", it could become the dominant strain in the UK, given we have a population which increasingly has either had covid or has had one or another vaccination?

JVT has just said that because the UK variant is more transmissible, the SA variant is unlikely to become dominant. I have no idea how he figured that out but there it is.

She's no Kay Burley either. I'm on Pavarotti now. Thanks.

Hmm I'm sure JVT knows more about it than me, but surely as we vaccinate more people, that has the effect of reducing the transmissibility of the uk variant, leaving room for the sa variant to expand?

The BBC has a different spin on what he said;

"Prof Van Tam says "we have small numbers" of the South African variant in the UK at the moment."

"..... there is no reason to think the South African variant will catch up or overtake our current virus ********in the next few months********."

He says the "immediate threat" is therefore from the Kent variant "

We're almost out of the season, what maybe another month, no time for any competing variants I would have thought. I suspect the opportunity would be next early winter when the prevalence of all variants is low.
