The Home Office was looking for around 28,000 hotel rooms for the % they are anticipating putting up under the rules for a proportion of arrivals from next week. We don't know if more than one person can stay per room if a couple/family are travelling. we don't know what proportion of arrivals the red list covers. So 2,000 + per day on the red list plus a bunch of others arriving per day. Plus all the truckers and anyone else managing to come and go by sea. Assumes these are big airline passengers and not private jets coming under the wire.

Apparently business travel includes pop stars flying to other countries for private concerts. Is that really within the spirit of the rules? I find it ridiculous that smokers are escorted out to smoke in quarantine hotels. |

If you're an international pop star plying your trade, I'd say that it is within the spirit of the rules - "work from home if you can" doesn't mean "don't take work in New Zealand if someone wants to book you" does it? Not really that different to the professional sportspeople travelling around the world into "bubbled" sporting events etc.

Elite sports, professional entertainers, politicians etc. are all permitted to travel for their "work". Whether they should or not is another matter. I am enjoying watching the sports that *are* on, but I would forego it if it would make this horrid virus go away more quickly.

If you call them musicians or singers instead of 'pop stars' (almost as horrific as celebrity) it sounds more like a business activity.

And when this pop star has repeatedly and publicly flouted the rules. Sorry, it feels like this is double standards.
