Sorry if I have confused things, I get confused as there is quite a lot of information to absorb.

I find it intriguing. Yesterday, there was rightly 'celebration that the number of positive tests had dropped to 20k.

But hey, that equates to 140,000 a week or to a mind numbing 560,000 in February.

Where are that many test-positive people - plus a vast number of asymptomatic people - all contracting it?

I

I've just had another illustration of how it spreads. A patient on the 'phone with a cough. A prolific consulter, mask "exempt" for reasons that are unclear. "Oh, no, I don't think I've got the coronavirus, can't I just come in for you to check me over?" She probably won't bother calling 111 to arrange a test.

We are all dealing with people whose comprehension and behaviour is at the level of, "I don't think my COVID symptoms are COVID," UC. At least I get to interrogate and issue simple instructions to the ones I encounter on the 'phone at work.

A dr on tv Thursday (one of the twins forget his name he’s had covid) basically said that if you feel unwell get tested as symptoms changed and there are new variants

Better to get tested and be negative than carry on potentially spreading the virus

I wonder how many cases occur because asymptomatic or presymptomatic people thought they could get away with close proximity to rellies etc "because I don't have Covid; I'm perfectly well"?

More or Less podcast a week or so ago looked into claims that 20% of cases were caught by going to the supermarket, but their analysis suggested the means of tracing were not strong enough to determine where the infection actually happened (just based on asking where the person had been recently)

If prevalence is extremely low then you've got a better chance of figuring it out, but it's still tricky forensics to do it accurately. Feels nigh on impossible at the moment.

I work off true cases being 3-4 times higher than those confirmed by testing so at 20k positive daily tests that's more like 500k actual cases a week, and it was well over a million a week for much of January.

I was genuinely surprised that my test was positive as my symptoms were not classic.
