Anyway, change of tack, back to the variants New website covariants.org that is rather good. If you look at the UK you can see the original variant which was dominant has now declined and the newer UK/Kent one is now very dominant. UK is recognised as one of, if not the best at genomic sequencing so very good data. Other countries are quite a bit behind in that respect so data may not be as accurate. Just yesterday the new US covid taskforce said they ned to get a lot better at this and committed additional funds/resources |

It's within the rules macca. It's for filming, which is her work. Whether you judge her "work" to have any value is then a matter of taste. I'd say completely worthless (to me) but apparently millions do get entertainment from her work. Millions don't get anything useful from my work (except me, because I get paid).

@HOD, there's not enough evidence for most of the vaccines to say how effective they are against the known mutations. I think for the Novavax vaccine, the trials took place at a time when the Kent variant was around and it was effective against that; the trial in South Africa seemed to suggest less efficacy against the SA variant but still above the 50% mark -- and remember that even if they don't protect against contracting it, they do give good protection against developing a serious case of Covid which lands you in hospital.

A scientist on R4 yesterday (sorry, can't cite source) said that lower efficacy against the SA variant could be for many reasons, not least that the trial was in SA so many other variables - climate, infrastructure etc.

I think what these new variants are showing is that the infection rate must be controlled. Vaccination is not the silver bullet, control is. Vaccination will undoubtedly help with numbers of hospitalizations, and deaths..but if infections arenot slowed it will mutate again and again and then it may outstrip the effectiveness of the vaccines!

HellsBells The Humpback Whales choose to come a long way into the Firth of Forth, as the fishing's good. In doing so, they will regularly encounter 300 metre long tankers going down to Hound Point to fill up. So, I don't think that a couple of Paddle Boarders will trouble them lol. |

It's defined here PenW: gov.uk Staying in your local area means stay in the village, town, or part of the city where you live. Though it doesn't give a definite limit like the '5 miles' one. |
