Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Just made a small improvement to 3229 - still not enough to catch Bree!

These results are interesting ... I'm a very slow runner but at the moment am able to row further than fast runners. Though I am fully expecting that to change!

I'm the same SK! Years of rowing (22 years now) have made my legs chunky which isn't always the best for running I think. At the moment I'd swap my good rowing times and for people's good running times if I could....

I think it's horses for courses. rowing is about generating power, so bulk is an advantage. running is more about power to weight, and efficiency is much more important, but so is dealing with the impacts, which I suspect limits runners, particularly heavier ones, from training as hard. if you look at elite rowers compared to elite distance runners the difference is obvious, and when you're doing indoor rowing and you don't need to shift your weight like you do in a boat, bulk is even less critical.

my 5k pb is 24 mins running, which is pretty slow for my class, but I've done it in less than 20 mins rowing, with much less time and structure to my training, which I think will be much more competitive.

I always used to argue that loki. When I rowed semi-seriously I said that if I could do 2100m in 8 mins (the standard club weekly benchmark test) then the big boys who weighed 50% more than me ought to do 3150m. Only fair. :D

ph - maybe try some slower ones too. if all your runs were 5k races things would probably hurt then as well. :-) presuming you're still streaking, you're taking away recovery time too.

cat - :-) as one of those 50% larger people, though, I suspect it's not quite that linear. [tries to work out what pace 2100m in 8 mins is, never mind 3150...]

2958m for me tonight. An improvement of 100m or something.

Need to work on the first 5 mins, when I'm pootling along happily at 2min50/ 500m.
