Seems the organisers claimed there was no bronze to be awarded if only 4 entrants. Seems GB / Englands appeals (or whatever) must have worked. And seems a bit late in the day to announce it after they'd run the bronze play off. We were struggling to understand what obscure rule would have caused it. Certainly not Scotland or Jenny complaining, because in everything else other than these games, Sophie & Jenny are linked at the hip and totally reliant on each other. And the UCI Road World Champs in 2 weeks. Seems it's still unresolved. More to come. |

Sophie’s story is on the BBC Sport website bbc.co.uk Seems very unfair not to give them medals because someone else dropped out. I hope the organisers change their minds. |

There was a similar problem in 1986 when a number of countries did not take part. Some events like boxing had only gold and silver medals, or even just gold, due to the reduced number of participants. I can't remember whether the organisers relented and awarded in retrospect medals on that occasion.
