Now I think about it, I might add in that funny stepper machine at the gym, if I can work out how many metres one floor is. I feel the punishment it delivers deserves some statistical reward.

Although of course I haven't actually climbed anywhere on that, I'm still at the same altitude I started at :) So maybe no to that too.

I'm only planning to include cycling and large single hikes or off-road runs that have mountains in them.

I am not, no way, never, keen enough to sit down with a calculator and try to work out how far I'll "climb" with the treadmill on a particular incline.

Interesting theme here. I logged 4841 ascent last year for running. I seemed to miss out on most of the club hill sessions for varying reasons even though I really wanted to do them. ;-) As I've signed up for a few hilly races this year I think I'll keep track of how much vertical I do.

I'm sure that going uphill on a bike also helps with going up on 2 legs, both walking and running so win, win, win all round. :)

Another 203m on my 4 mile plus walk with Jess the GSD this morning. that makes 637m. I'm hoping to have climbed a kilometre by the end of Week 1. Because that sounds quite nice.

Well done Sharkie. I'm back in the relative flatlands now, though I could easily change my 'running from home' routes to include more uppiness. This is where the discipline of having a target is going to help, I hope!

Two runs totalling 191m and two bike rides for 383m (combined total of 574 meters ascent).

The local area is mainly flattish with slow rises and some almost hills*. It'll be interesting to see where this ascent gets to.

* On occasion I tow a trailer with the bike and then the long slow slopes and almost hills can be a thigh burning right royal PITA!

Insomnia gets you thinking, would step ups count towards an ascent target?

I'd say your target, your rules, SVB.

The Y-axis botherers of 2017 :)

Running or cycling or (somehow!) swimming uphill in 2017. Monkey people with the ropes and whatnot also very welcome.

Customised targets are the way to go here, depending on fitness and targets and geography and mode of propulsion. Good luck all :)
