You SHOULD be pleased - that's a lot! My hilly miles give me that sort of figure for a run or walk but in London the average 5k is only around 50m at best. And they're not dead flat runs - there are little hills and undulations. Little but noticeable.

It's just that Hastings IS very hilly.

I'm including walking, running and cycling miles. I've just hit 1000m. Nearly 800 of those metres are ascending whilst cycling.

Just as well I'm not logging my skiing mileage. ;-)

I've mentioned this on the 700 miles thread but it may be of interest to people here:

Looking at my summary last night I thought it was a bit lower than I'd expected so I checked through my running entries for this month. It seems that if I don't click 'save changes' or 'save and view' (even if I don't make any changes)to the information fed through from my Garmin, the elevation doesn't get counted. Having saved every entry now I have a total running ascent of 988 metres so far this month (helped considerably by the two runs I did over the weekend which contributed 350m between them!)

2997 metres for me after today's mountaineering dog walk. I'm on target for my half way there (3k) by end of January. Hurrah!

LD - thanks for that. I'd sort of noticed that the ascent didn't always appear but didn't know why. I always edit - seeing as I never do 'run-general' so everything I log eventually gets the ascent put in.

I'm glad your hard efforts are now not going unrecorded! star star star

Feb will be leaner for me as I expect to be in London quite a lot, so I shall target mid March ...10 weeks for 10k sounds good doesn't it. Climb a k a week! :-)

I'm back up the hills, after quite some time off, about 580m of up today I think. Total lack of planning left me miles from home and freezing cold with no clothes though, so picked up an entire new outfit in Shelter - jeans, t shirt, massive woolly cardigan - for just £14.50 and the inov-8 cap I accidentally left behind.

Quite pleased with all that. Might do Dumgoyne and Earls Seat tomorrow for some bonus ascent.

I'm at 872m in total now so 10k over the year should be possible :)

I've run up 1355 metres so far, so although I don't want to tempt fate, my 10k into the sky should be easily do-able. If that happens I'll re-set the target.

I've just re-checked and its 947m - the other number wasn't for the whole year so far, just the past month.

The Y-axis botherers of 2017 :)

Running or cycling or (somehow!) swimming uphill in 2017. Monkey people with the ropes and whatnot also very welcome.

Customised targets are the way to go here, depending on fitness and targets and geography and mode of propulsion. Good luck all :)
