Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Got to wait until my birthday is out of the way yet - Dec 22nd.

My mum used to give me a day for my cards to take precedence before putting up stuff relating to 'the annual food and drink festival'.

I like to maintain that - if only in deference to her ;-)

We did the same for my dad. Fortunately, his birthday was December 8th, so we could still get our decorations up in advance. My parents' attitude was that it was fine to have decorations up for weeks before Christmas but there was nothing more pathetic than a Christmas tree still up on New Year's Day.

I fear there may be some fall out for those that go early this year! How many will be sick of the sight of tinsel come Christmas Day!?

I never have been, but after Boxing Day I'm a bit like, "Take that down, it's looking tatty." Which is, I accept, ecclesiastically wrong, but Twelfth Night is my parents' wedding anniversary and Christmas and Hogmanay need to be consigned to history by then.

Our old Cavern had high ceilings and a big bay window, and I recall the pleasure of putting up an 8ft Nordmann and the non-pleasure of trying to dispose of it. Now I'd just chop it into little logs and chuck it on the garden.

We never really bother as we're not at home much in December - work during the day, Christmas dos in the evening and then away for Christmas and New Year. Spending far more time in the house this year is tempting me to make a bit more of an effort.

Our council collect trees with the first green garden bin collection in January,
Although I will have to check this year - the first collection is scheduled on 3rd Jan, which seems a bit soon. Next one 17th.
