On their facebook page they've shown the extra bit of a loop around the Grosvenor Park. It's nice and flat in there, paths are tarmac and well kept.

Fingers crossed it's all been measured!!

I'm feeling good about my choice of Chester over my (local) Leicester marathon - much of the course there was literally underwater yesterday, and they're still deciding whether to cancel. As for the changes to the Chester route - hurrah to no grass - switching to the racecourse at the end after 26 miles of tarmac nearly finished me a couple of years ago.

It made me look at the route in more detail, I hadn't spotted some subtle changes from 2017 which shorten the route through town and down to the old dee bridge in the first mile or so, plus a little 180deg turn at the furthest point away from Chester, both of which were added in last year.

Agree, that grass at the end was challenging in 2017!

Facebook post makes clear that courses have been measured and approved - I'd expect nothing less really as there organisation has always struck me as being outstanding.

Yep, just spotted the note about the measurement. They are an excellent team, I've said it before. I've complete faith in their ability to communicate and organise everything as best as they can, and they charge a fair price for the privilege - lucky to have them on my doorstep!

I think the metric was due to start at 10:15 so that’s a slightly later one.

I’m happy to avoid the grass on those pictures. 😅

Correcting a post I made a while back, the official booklet shows 10:15 for the metric, and I think that's stayed the same for the new start location. But as ever, don't trust me!!

evening all, dipping into fetch forums first time for ages and ages, hello all and welcome to one of the worlds best organised marathons , IMHO , and one of the best friendliest, and of course its a 2 country marathon well described by Larkim. It'll be my 10th finish all being well and 9th th start - i ran through finish and 8 miles earlier - with Gary D who was doig his hundredth in 2015. As a near ever present and knowing the organisers through helping pace the 1/2 , yes i am biased- it is by runners for runners. Having seen the weekend rain im not surprised with racecorse being closed - but an amazing well done the Chris ( the organiser who stands on the finish shaking hands) & Andy for their reorganisation at late notice.. There will be a facebook live event to share details. -- aha Homer - i think i ran a few miles with you and Ploddy- at the first Chester on the old route- still my pb
